EDDIE Fortunado, one of the suspects in the killing of Judge Henry Arles, voluntarily surrendered before the court last Monday and posted bail for the case of illegal possession of ammunition.
Allan Gozon, chair of Negros Alliance for Human Rights Advocates (NAHRA), confirmed that they facilitated the surrender and the posting of P20,000 bail through surety bond before the sala of Judge Manuel Cardinal of Regional Trial Court Branch 49.
Gozon said that they facilitated Fortunado’s availment of the due process because they believe that he is innocent of the charges hurled against him and that they were just victims of the NBI set up and were tortured to force them to admit the crime.
Fortunado recanted his affidavit.
Lawyer Ferdinand Lavin, NBI-Bacolod chief, said that the posting of bail of Fortunado is a good gesture of cooperation, which is good rather than ignoring the warrant of arrest against him.
"That means he does recognize the justice system because he surrendered to the court," Lavin added. (Teresa D. Ellera)
