AN INMATE was stabbed to death by his fellow inmates inside the Negros Occidental District Jail in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City last Sunday evening.
Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Investigator Leo Lacerna on Tuesday identified the victim as Mario Aborido, 23, resident of Calatrava town, Negros Occidental who has a pending complaint for murder before the Regional Trial Court in San Carlos City.
Lacerna, who was sent by BJMP regional office to investigate the incident, said Aborido sustained seven stab wounds in different parts of his body after he was stabbed by an unidentified perpetrator inside the jail at about 7 p.m.
Investigation showed that while the cell coordinators were conducting a meeting inside the jail, the victim approached them and challenged them for a fight.
Lacerna said several inmates immediately mobbed Aborido, who was then left on the floor with stabbed wounds.
The jail nurse immediately attended the victim and rushed him to the hospital. However, Aborido died before reaching Bago City Hospital.
Investigation also revealed that the victim was known for violating several jail rules for which he was subjected to disciplinary action.
He was also involved in a stabbing incident in 2010 when he was still detained at the old Provincial Jail in Bacolod City.
During the incident, five BJMP personnel, including jail warden Amelito Fuentes, were on duty.
Lacerna said they already required Fuentes and his personnel to submit their position papers on the incident.
He added that they also asked for the cooperation of the inmates to identify the suspects responsible for Aborido’s killing.
