THE Commission on Election (Comelec) in Negros Occidental has stricken the names of 14 candidates on its list for the May 2013 elections after they officially withdrew their Certificates of Candidacy (COC).
Comelec provincial supervisor Jesie Suarez said that six new candidates have filed their COCs as substitute candidates.
Suarez identified the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) candidates who withdrew their COCs namely: Augusto Clavera Tolosa, Rogelio Balandra, Nazario Ibañez Sr., Lanie Galveson and Glenda Diola – all running for Cadiz City councilors, while Gloria Katalbas, Mnel Jimelia, Ramoneto Cadmelote and Geovanie Acdol – all running for Sagay City councilors.
Katalbas, Jimelia, Cadmelote, and Acdol will be replaced by Tolando Canal, Pio Manlangit, Victor Garcia, Jr. and Eduardo Santiago, respectively.
In Silay City, Evelyn Tan substituted Emily Rose Ann Gamboa for councilor while Wuirse Cavales of the United Negros Alliance (UNA) was replaced by Susan Nakayama in her candidacy for Municipal Council member of La Castellana.
In Victorias City, Mark Palanca, who was an independent candidate for mayor, also withdrew his COC.
In EB Magalona, those who withdrew their COCs for Municipal Council members were Nilo Japitana and Reylan Gamboa Sr.
The Comelec has been cleansing its official list of candidates before printing the official ballots for the May 13 elections.
Meanwhile, Suarez bared that he is still waiting for his relief order from Comelec Manila. He said he has already an agreement with Iloilo Provincial Comelec supervisor lawyer Elizabeth Dionela that they will swap positions once the Comelec reshuffling order comes out.
