BACOLOD City Council has approved an ordinance that will designate a permanent area for the annual MassKara festival celebration and it will be known as the "MassKara City."
The MassKara City in the reclamation area will be a permanent site for the holding of the world-renowned festival and will become a landmark tourism destination in the city.
The area is a five-hectare contiguous property owned by the city that shall house and showcase permanent booths of all the 61 barangays in the city, and a MassKara museum where MassKara artistry and souvenir products, masks and costumes shall be displayed for posterity and tourism promotion.
The area shall be established and developed as a Cultural Heritage Tourism Zone to bring in new investments in tourism establishments and services.
City Administrator John Orola Jr. appreciated the idea, considering that MassKara festival is already in the calendar of activities of travel agencies and tour operators.
