Thousands join 8th Bacolaodiat opening

THOUSANDS of Bacolodnons and Negrenses joined the celebration of the Chinese New Year with the opening of the 8th Bacolaodiat Festival at the North Capitol Road, Bacolod City on Thursday.
City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia said the people have already embraced the celebration with the meeting of the Filipino and Chinese cultures.
There are many activities that will enliven the celebration which is geared towards unity and prosperity.
The city has recognized the great contribution of the Filipino-Chinese community to the local economy by providing more employment opportunities to Bacolodnons.

They will also honor business tycoon John Golongwei on the 14th of February to make him as the 3rd Honorary Mayor of Bacolod after business tycoons former Ambassador Eduardo Danding Cojuangco and Lucio Tan.
The Chinese New Year is considered the most important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated with big family gathering, gift giving, the eating of symbolic foods and display of festive decorations all over the country that focuses on bringing good luck for the New Year and celebrating the coming of spring.
Bacolod City, which is home to many Chinese-Filipino families and businessmen, continues to uphold and recognize the importance of the traditions of each sector within the society.
The Bacolodnons will once again mingle with their Filipino-Chinese brothers and sisters in this traditional celebration.
Government officials graced the occasion including Leonardia, Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and others city officials. (CNC)
