Dengue cases up 355% this year

PROVINCIAL Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang confirmed the overwhelming increase of dengue cases in the province from January 1 to February 2 this year compared to the same period last year.
Based on PHO record, a total of 287 dengue cases were admitted to the different private and public hospitals this year and it is 355 percent higher compared to the same period last year with only 63 dengue cases and zero fatality rate.
This is the highest number of dengue cases in the past several years, Tumimbang said.
Tumimbang added that there is a trend of dengue cases but preventive measures are still in place.
Local government units which reported having dengue cases for the first month this year are Talisay City-37, San Carlos City-34, Bago City-29, Victorias City-25, Silay City- 20, La Carlota City- 17, Escalante City-14, Manapla, Binalbagan-12 and Murcia with 10 cases.
Tumimbang reminded the public anew to maintain cleanliness in the environment and destroy the possible breeding of mosquitoes to avoid the disease.
