THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is hoping for the full cooperation of all candidates during the signing of the peace covenant this week, according to Provincial Comelec Supervisor lawyer Wil Arceno.
Arceno said that he has sent the invitation for the signing of the peace covenant and that the candidates have signified their willingness for the signing.
The signing will start in February 21 in Bacolod City, where the candidates’ supporters will hold a walk for a cause from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon to the Bacolod City Public Plaza at 4 p.m. before the signing of the peace covenant.
The same activity is also scheduled in San Carlos City in February 22, Don Salvador Benedicto (Feb. 28), Sagay City (March 14), Calatrava (March 18), Toboso (March 19), Manapla (March 20), and Escalante City (March 21).
303rd Brigade commander Oscar Lactao said that the peace covenant will ensure that all candidates adhere to uphold non-violence in the conduct of the elections.
Lactao met recently with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Army units of the 3rd District during the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council (JPSCC) meeting held in Silay City.
He said that the signing of the peace covenant will be coordinated with the different local government units (LGUs), as well as the Social Action Center of the dioceses in the different localities in the province and the assigned or deployed PNP and Army unit in the area.
In the JPSCC meeting, Lactao said that the PNP and the military also assigned task forces to further beef up the efforts to ensure peace and order in the coming elections.
Meanwhile, Arceno revealed that they are still waiting for the order from Comelec Manila on the reshuffling of Comelec officers in the province.
He said that they are waiting for the reshuffling before this month ends, because in March 1 they will already start with the trainings of the election officers after they already received the guidelines for the voting and the counting of votes.
