Alvarez predicts Arles loss in May 13 polls-A A +A

NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez said that Philip Arles, who is running against his daughter, incumbent Representative Mercedes Alvarez, cannot win in the May 13 elections.
"He is boastful but he will be put to shame because I am sure he will lose in the elections," Alvarez said.
The vice governor made the statement after Arles said Alvarez is not going to win in the whole province, and will lose to his opponent, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., even in Kabankalan City, one of the supposed strongholds of Alvarez.
"Why would we vote for a leader who is involved in a case? Why do we elect somebody who has no program to speak of and cannot even face and speak before the people?” Arles said.
But Alvarez said he is not facing any criminal case in court. The case of Judge Henry Arles’ murder is still with the Department of Justice (DOJ), which has yet to come out with a decision.
Arles also expressed hope during the press conference that the Department of Interior and Local Government will implement soon the 90-days suspension against Alvarez's son, Ilog Mayor John Paul Alvarez.
It is in connection with a case filed against him and eight Ilog employees before the Sandiganbayan for allegedly unlawfully repairing and replacing the motor engine of a Mitsubishi Pajero service vehicle of the Ilog Department of Education office.
Vice Governor Alvarez said they have not yet received the copy of the said Sandiganbayan decision as of Thursday. He added that if they do receive it, Mayor Alvarez will abide by any order either from the Sandiganbayan or the DILG.
