GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon Jr. urged Monday the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Army to ensure a peaceful and credible May 2013 polls during the commemoration of the 27th EDSA People Power Revolution.
"You have a big task and important job ahead of you. Guns, goons and money are now back in the present practice in our political exercise," Marañon told Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) Director Senior Supt. Celestino Guara and Commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, Col. Oscar Lactao.
Marañon said that, 27 years ago, Filipinos were the proudest all over the world and were able to earn the respect of the whole world for archiving true democracy through a bloodless revolution.
"But sad to say that, after 27 years, we backslid from the true democracy we achieved. The spirit of EDSA is for us Filipinos to love each other and not kill each other. I am reiterating that our greatest enemy is poverty," Marañon added.
The governor also calls for maintaining of a high level of campaign, where all candidates should present only their programs and platform of government and avoid employing dirty politics for the May elections.
