THE signing of the peace covenant, in relation to the May 2013 polls, is set today in Bacolod City between the candidates of the United Negros Alliance (UNA) and the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., who runs under the UNA, and his opponent, NPC candidate Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez, are scheduled to sign the peace covenant Friday afternoon in the San Sebastian Cathedral, Bacolod City.
Vice-gubernatorial candidates 5th District Board Member Melvin Ibañez (UNA) and former San Carlos City mayor Eugenio Lacson (NPC), as well as all the candidates for board member, are also set to sign the peace pact.
Marañon earlier confirmed his attendance during the signing along with his UNA party mates, while Alvarez said that he and his party mates will still have to decide on their attendance.
Though he already assured that he will sign the covenant and vowed a peaceful campaign from his camp, Alvarez said he has some schedule out of town today.
Provincial Comelec Supervisor lawyer Wil Arceno said that he hopes for the full cooperation of all candidates during the signing of peace covenant to ensure that no violence is going to take place during the midterm elections.
The signing of the peace covenant started in February 21 in Bacolod City and other towns and cities in Negros Occidental.
