Board dared: Tackle other matters in session and we'll sue you

ON TOP of the budget impasse, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. cautioned the Provincial Board from taking up other matters during their regular sessions.
"That would be illegal. We will sue them in court," Marañon said when asked about the reported plans of some of the Board Members to go on with the Board's regular session on Wednesday and take up other matters lined up for their action.
Marañon invokes Section 323 of the Local Government Code, which was also pointed out and clarified by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) whose opinion and interpretation was sought by the governor.
“Our legal department is ready and the matter was already cleared in the communication and memorandum of the DILG that because of the failure of the SP to enact the 2013 Provincial Budget they cannot take up other matters aside from the budget,” Marañon said.
The budget is still being deliberated by the Board finance committee and that there are still several department heads that are scheduled to defend their budget in the committee deliberation.
The Board has failed to proceed with their regular sessions for several times already because of the budget impasse.
