REELECTIONIST Representatives Albee Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental) and Alejandro Mirasol, both running under the Liberal Party, are set to sign a peace covenant for the May elections at the San Sebastian Cathedral today, Thursday.
Benitez was not able to join in the signing of the peace covenant last March 1 because he was still abroad. He said he is fulfilling his promise to sign the peace pact today.
The signing of the peace covenant will be initiated and witnessed by some church officials, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Acting Provincial Supervisor Wil Arceno, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Director Celestino Guara and Colonel Oscar Lactao, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army in Negros Occidental.
The provincial officials led by reelectionist Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and his challenger Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez signed the peace covenant last March 1.
The church has reminded the candidates that they should faithfully follow what they signed, just like God who never abandoned His covenant with His people, and that they should uphold the peaceful, honest, accurate and meaningful election.
Other candidates in all towns and cities in Negros Occidental are also signing the same peace pact. (TDE)
