GOVERNOR Alfredo Marañon on Monday said he is confident he will win the May 13 elections in the First to the Fifth Districts of Negros Occidental.
Marañon made the statement after the arrival of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) chairman emeritus Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco last Friday in the province to further strengthen the support for Vice Governor and gubernatorial candidate Genaro Alvarez and the rest of the party's candidates in the province.
"I admit that I am disadvantaged in the Sixth District but I will lose there by just a small margin," Marañon said.
Liberal Party (LP) provincial chair Third District Representative Albee Benitez and NPC provincial chair Kabankalan Mayor Isidro Zayco said Friday last week that they are confident of the victory of Alvarez and his running mate Bong Lacson over the Marañon-Ibañez tandem.
Marañon reiterated that only a single vote ahead of his opponent is already a landslide victory that would give him another mandate for his reelection to the highest post in the province.
"We are enjoying the support of the grassroots, the religious leaders, the nuns and priests. These people included me in their prayers that this coming election will be clean, honest and peaceful," Marañon said.
He also said numerous hacienda owners in the province truly support him unlike statements from his opponent which he said is only based on hearsays.
Marañon further said that the attendance of numerous people in their sorties is proof of their support and preference for him because of the projects they availed under his administration.
He said that he can feel the sincerity of the people in their warm welcome during their sorties all over the province.
"We have the attendance of more people during our sorties compared to that of our opponents. Most people would also mob us which is proof of their support," Marañon said. (TDE)
