Friday, March 22, 2013
WITH the recent robbery hold up incident of F &C pawnshop at downtown area Saturday, the installation of the Comprehensive Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) will be done and tested today at downtown area (Araneta-Luzuriaga) streets and in some main thoroughfares in the city.
Councilor Carl V. Lopez, who authored the CCTV ordinance years back, said it is timely and necessary now to implement the said ordinance to prevent the conduct of crimes at downtown area.
He said that the control area will be at the old City Hall and they will test its coverage and capability today.
This is just the initial phase. But the important thing is that we have taken the small steps and eventually enforce fully the ordinance, he said.
The installation of the CCTV at the Bacolod Government center has turned controversial in the past and this was not pushed through despite the directive from the Department of Interior and Local Government during the time of the late DILG secretary Jessie Robredo.
Lopez said that this is a part from the Bacolod Government Center and he considered the installation at downtown area as a priority area. (CNC)
