Council authorizes mayor to sell property

THE Bacolod City Council has passed an ordinance authorizing Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia to sell the city’s property in Barangay 35 and 16 to the actual occupants at an amount not higher than the selling price of the National Housing Authority (NHA) of its parcel of land adjoining the property.
Councilor Dindo Ramos, the author of the ordinance, said the residential land of the city in Barangays 35 and 16 with an area of 23,120 per square meters is presently being occupied by more than 600 families, who are mostly holders of Certificate of Perpetual Occupancy.
It said the parcel of land adjoining the property of the city is owned by the National Housing Authority and is being sold to the actual occupants at P1,500 per square meters.
The Dreamland People’s Organization proposed to the City Government to acquire its property at a consideration that they can afford and can be comparable to the offer of NHA to its beneficiaries, the ordinance said.
The purpose of the ordinance is for the City Government to covert its idle property into a productive endeavor and to afford its constituents the opportunity to acquire land which they can proudly claim as other very own.
