Wage hike approved-A A +A
Saturday, September 7, 2013
THE Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas regional director Ponciano Ligutom assured workers that a wage hike would be approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) before this year ends.
Ligutom said that labor group, NACUSIP, has filed a P130 daily wage hike petition which will be deliberated by the RTWPB. The RTWPB is set to hold a meeting on September 10 in Iloilo after a public consultation on the wage hike petition was held last week.
"It was not yet a public hearing," Ligutom clarified. Since the National Productivity Council has already resolved that the wage hike would be given in a two-tiered manner, the workers he said could expect the first basic hike to be less than the second one based on productivity.
The labor sector, through its representative in the regional wage board Winnie Sancho, had been opposing the two-tiered salary wage increase saying that it is anti-labor. The present minimum wage in Western Visayas is P250 to P277 per day, Ligutom said.
