Cuenca: ‘Decom declared me eligible to run’-A A +A
Monday, September 23, 2013
CENTRAL Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) District 1 candidate for Board of Director, Joy Martha Cuenca, said it was the District Election Committee (Decom) and Screening and Selection Committee that declared her eligible to run for the post.
Joy Martha is the wife of former Ceneco Board of Director Luis Boy Cuenca.
"The issue on disqualification is now between the group of complainant Rommel Jamelo and the Ceneco Decom. I have submitted all the requirements that Decom required me to submit as well as my answer to the disqualification filed by Jamelo within the prescribed period,” said Cuenca.
After a thorough deliberation of Decom regarding my qualification, she said, “a certificate of eligibility to run for Board of Director was issued to me, thus, I filed my candidacy."
The election at District 1 Saturday was restrained by Regional Trial Court Branch 48 Judge Rosario Ester Orda-Caise when she granted plaintiff Jamelo, a temporary restraining order (TRO) Friday, purposely to restrain the Ceneco from holding the election.
Jamelo was supposedly to be a candidate, but was disqualified by from running due to his apparent failure to comply with the requisites of running for Board of Director in District 1.
Sonny Petierre, lawyer of Jamelo, said that with this TRO, there could have been will be no election in District 1, but the election in districts VI and IX had pushed through with the candidates running unopposed.
Jamelo filed his petition questioning why his supposed opponent, Cuenca, was qualified when she is not even a member consumer.
There was an application submitted last Sept. 5, 2013 to add her name in the account of her husband, Luis, to appear that she is also a consumer member, he said.
Petierre, however, said for one to qualify to run for the post, he or she must be a consumer-member and be a member of good standing for five years preceding the conduct of the election.
