Lawmaker’s kin slain, children shot-A A +A

A BUSINESSWOMAN and relative of Bayan Muna Party-list Representative Neri Colmenares was killed while her two children were injured when three armed and bonnet-clad robbers barged into their house at Sitio Mananawin, Barangay Masulong, La Castellana, Negros Occidental around 3 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, identified as Delia Colmenares, 54, died on the spot when the robbers shot her on the abdomen, said Senior Superintendent Milko Lirazan, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office director.
The victim’s children were identified as Antonio Jose Colmenares, 28, and Ma. Famela Colmenares, 19. They were brought to the Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City for treatment.
The gunmen fled after shooting the victims.
Police initial investigation showed that the incident happened during the payday of the victims’ workers.
It also happened during the first day of implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban for the forthcoming October 28, 2013 barangay elections.
Some slugs of a .45 caliber handgun were recovered from the crime scene, the police said.
The La Castellana police continue its investigation on the incident. (Sun.Star Bacolod)
