Tuesday, October 1, 2013
THE 33rd MassKara Festival will officially open on Tuesday in Bacolod City -- The City of Smiles.
Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella and Kasadya Bacolod Foundation, Inc. chairman and festival director Rhoderick Samonte declared an all system's go for the 20-day fun-packed festivities in the city, expecting local and foreign tourists to come and to have fun.
Puentevella assured the people of Bacolod of a peaceful and orderly celebration with the participation of the Catholic Church, Department of Education (DepEd), and the security efforts of the police force.
Puentevella reiterated that the MassKara Festival will open with the traditional "Diana" and mass at the public plaza to be attended by students, teachers, personnel and officials of the DepEd.
Considering the influx of domestic and foreign tourists that will troop to Bacolod, Puentevella said the police are appropriately armed and their visibility in all areas of the festival sites will be seen.
Police reinforcement from the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office and the Philippine National Police in Western Visayas are now in place, Puentevella said. He thanked Chief Inspector Jefferson Descallar of the Bacolod City Police Office for organizing and heading the "Oplan MassKara," adding that: "Rain or shine, we are ready, everything is ready and all under control."
Puentevella likewise thanked the SM City Bacolod management for the free use of their premises and the cooperation of the residents and business owners along the entire "Lacson Strip."
Airport access road
Meanwhile, Puentevella said President Benigno Aquino III will not come for the opening of the 10-kilometer access road to the airport due to pressing concerns facing the nation but instead sends Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson to represent the President during the official opening of the access road.
Puentevella did not said the definite date for the opening, but said "hopefully (on the) second week of October."
There are national officials holding partisan political offices who had indicated their attendance to the festival, but will maintain a low profile; business magnate Manny V. Pangilinan will be the keynote speaker during the observance of the 75th Charter Day Celebration on October 19.
