NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is preparing the provincial budget for 2014, said Enrique Pinongan, provincial administrator.
Pinongan said the governor has until October 16 to submit the proposed budget to the Provincial Council.
Now that the political season is over, Pinongan said, they are hoping for the smooth approval of the proposed budget that is expected to be higher than this year's P2.02 billion.
He attributed this to the good relationship between the executive and the legislative offices at the Capitol. The provincial budget was approved only in July this year.
"The budget is being prepared by the budget officer upon instruction of the governor. We expect an increase on IRA in 2014 from P150 million to P250 million. The bigger slice of the budget is expected to go to the health office," Pinongan said.
He said that 20 percent of the Provincial Development Fund will go to the loan repayment and the remaining would go to the infrastructure projects.
Board Member Salvador Escalante said the budget would undergo the normal procedure like the committee hearings.
