Crops, fisheries damage pegged at P74M-A A +A

THE Office of the Provincial Agriculturist reported on Thursday that initial damage to crops and fisheries have reached to more than P74 million due to the heavy rains that caused flooding in southern Negros Occidental.
Provincial agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan, in his report to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., said damage to rice reached P56,109,048; fisheries - P10,011,285; irrigation projects - P8,000,000; and high value commercial crops - P515,965.
Hinobaan incurred the biggest damage to palay rice in pesos at P11,056,000; Kabankalan - P5,152,000; and Sipalay City- P5,024,000.
Ilog incurred the highest damaged at more than P7 million in damage to fisheries and fish ponds.
Three fishermen in Hinobaan also reported damages to their pump boats valued at P150,000.
