Minor damages reported from intensity 6 quake-A A +A

NEGROS Occidental Acting Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said they are thankful that Negros Occidental was spared from extreme damage and loss of life due to an intensity 6 earthquake that was felt around 8:12 a.m. Tuesday.
No casualties and only minor damages were reported in the province.
The quake was recorded from two to five kilometers (km) southeast of Carmen town, Bohol at intensity 7.2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) and the United States Geological Service reported.
Phivolcs said the earthquake had a depth of 33 km.
The tremor lasted for a minute and was also felt in some parts of Visayas and Mindanao:
Intensity 6 - Hinigaran, Negros Occidental
Intensity 5 - Iloilo City
Intensity 4 - Masbate City
Intensity 3 - Davao City
Most of the residents all over the province including those working at the call center firms in Bacolod City went out of the building and their houses during the tremor.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council reported no major damage except for road cracks in Pontevedra and Sipalay City.?
Cracks were also noted at Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital in Silay City and patients were evacuated. Situation has already returned to normal on Tuesday.
Patients at the upper floors of Cadiz City District hospital were transferred to the ground floor due to cracks found on the wall of the hospital.
“Some patients were even brought by their families outside for safety during the tremor. Evacuation of patients took more than one hour,” Dr. Josephine Pahamtang said.
She said the Pedia Section at the hospital’s fourth floor will be temporarily relocated to the ground floor until the situation normalizes.
Melvin Fiero of the Provincial Disaster Management Program said a concrete house owned by Violeta Indino of Barangay Alim, Hinobaan was totally damaged while more houses were partially damaged in Barangay Culipapa, Hinobaan. Barangay 3-Poblacion and Barangay San Juan in Pontevedra were damaged.
The concrete wall of Parocco Beach Resort in Pontevedra also collapsed because of the earthquake.
The operation of some Business Process Outsourcing was temporarily affected on Tuesday after the tremor affected their hub which they use to communicate abroad.
Schools and universities having two and more storey buildings have checked on the safety of their buildings on Tuesday and declared that classes would resume Wednesday.
Frank Carbon of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry and manager of Weesam Express said the Philippine Coast Guard temporarily suspended ferry trips on Tuesday after the quake. The trips resumed after an hour.
