Wednesday, October 23, 2013
NEGROS Occidental and Negros Oriental officials are set to meet on the plans of putting the two provinces under one region, during the first week of November, or after the observance of the All Saint's Day.
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. of Negros Occidental revealed yesterday the meeting will take place either in Kabankalan City, or in Mabinay, Negros Oriental.
The meeting was supposed to take place October 25 as arranged by Negros Oriental Rep. George Arnaiz. Due to the October 28 barangay elections, however, the meeting was moved.
The move to revive the One-Island Region to Region 6-A was initiated by officials of the two provinces after the May elections.
Marañon said that congressmen of the two provinces have been talking about the one-island region plan.
At present, Negros Occidental is under Region 6 where regional offices are located in Iloilo, while Negros Oriental belongs to Region 7 with Cebu as the center of the regional offices.
