Mayor bent on naming Ramos’ replacement-A A +A
Tuesday, November 5, 2013
BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella said the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by a local court that enabled Marichi Ramos to remain as director of Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) is not a hindrance for him to appoint a replacement who can truly represent the professional sector.
The mayor issued the statement in reaction to the comments of the Ramos camp regarding the appointment of a new director by November 15.
Puentevella said the TRO has a limited number of days, 20 days to be exact, but he is not in a hurry to choose or appoint a new director while the TRO is still in effect.
He pointed out that Ramos was removed by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) because she is not qualified to sit as BACIWA director.
“I am trying to make sure that it will not happen to me,” the mayor said, referring to the act of Ramos’s appointing officer.
Ramos was appointed by former mayor and now congressman Evelio Leonardia.
“I will make sure they (nominees) will be screened very well before I make my choice because I don’t want to commit the same mistake,” Puentevella said.
He stressed that the important thing is to replace somebody who is not qualified.
“I have to respect LWUA, whoever is the head of LWUA especially that he is also a lawyer and it was them that decided on it (case of Ramos),” Puentevella added.
