Mayor hopeful on approval of P40-M supplemental budget-A A +A

BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella said he hopes that the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod will act on his request for a supplemental budget of P40 million.
Puentevella said he sees no problem with his request for another supplemental budget as the SP members headed by Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya have been cooperative and supportive of his programs.
He revealed that a portion of the P28 million allocation for general services is intended for the Emergency Cost of Living Allowance of teachers, and for the salary of job order casuals.
The mayor also said that part of the supplemental budget request is the P5-million terminal benefits of terminated casual employees.
“They (terminated employees) can smile if the supplemental budget request will be passed,” he replied to the question if the terminated employees can now smile after a long wait for the release of their terminal benefits.
Included in the supplemental budget to be taken from various sources in the General Fund are the following: assistance to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, P5 million; General Services (Office of the Mayor), P28 million; terminal leave benefits, P5 million; and 5 percent Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund, P 2 million.
Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya, meanwhile, said last week they will schedule a committee hearing to take up the request of the mayor because they saw the urgency and need for it especially because the terminal leave benefits of employees are long overdue.
Gasataya said they also want to know the details of the amount requested like for example, the breakdown of the P5 million for donation, so they can explain it to the people.
It was the consensus of the members of the City Council to have the request itemized, he added.
