NEGROS Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said he does not believe that the results of the October 28 barangay elections are reflective of the candidates’ trust in the leadership of First District Rep. Julio Ledesma IV.
"Let us survey first if they know Jules because he could not even be seen in the district," Marañon said.
The governor’s reaction was based on the statement of Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson that majority of those who won in the recent barangays election in the province belongs to the opposition “Love Negros” party where he and Ledesma belong.
In the first place, barangay elections should be non-political, Marañon said, adding that the result depends on how many relatives and friends the candidate have in a certain barangay.
When asked if the United Negros Alliance ( UNA), his political party, would support a candidate for Liga ng mga Barangay president of the province, the governor said the decision lies on the barangay captains, mayors, and congressmen.
The provincial president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) automatically becomes a provincial board member.
The ABC election is set in December.
