P35.61M set for families with destroyed houses-A A +A

THE Negros Occidental Provincial Board approved on Wednesday a P35.613-million aid to owners of 11,871 destroyed houses in the province, based on the endorsement of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
The province will provide P3,000 each to owners of destroyed houses.
Initially, the total number of destroyed houses was 13,233, but after the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) conducted a validation, the figure was reduced to 11,781.
Provincial Budget Officer Jose Percival Salado said that the PSWDO can now prepare the payroll of the beneficiaries.
The PSWDO had also reported that 48,144 other houses in the province were damaged by super typhoon Yolanda.
The assistance for families with damaged houses will be provided by their respective local government units.
The typhoon also displaced 84,896 Negrense families, the report added.
The total number of affected families is equivalent to 399,840 persons in 475 barangays in 31 towns and cities in the province, excluding Bacolod City.
Two died while 42 were injured at the height of the typhoon, the PSWDO report added.
The Provincial Government has distributed 53,710 family packs to families affected by the typhoon. (NLG)
