Pagcor to move to 15th-Lacson Streets-A A +A

PREPARATIONS are ongoing for the proposed location transfer of the casino operated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) in Bacolod City from its current site at Goldenfield Commercial Complex along Araneta Street to 15th-Lacson Streets.
L'Fisher Hotel submitted a request to the City Council to authorize the construction of a pedestrian bridge that will link the existing hotel building to their new building that will house the casino.
Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the committee on laws, ordinances and good government, said over Bombo Radyo Bacolod Thursday that he authored an ordinance on the matter in response to the request by the L'Fisher Hotel management and also to regulate the use of Bacolod air space.
“We will be making a policy direction on the use of the airspace by way of an ordinance,” he said.
The proposed ordinance seeks to declare certain portions of 15th-Lacson Streets (between Lacson Street and Aguinaldo Street) into patrimonial property to regulate the air space thereof.
Distrito said there are developments in the city, particularly in parts of Lacson Street that require the use of air space. He said that by converting certain portions of road lots into patrimonial property, dominion is not lost.
Distrito said the ownership of air space belongs to the government and any use of its airspace for lawful purposes to redound to the benefit of the constituents of Bacolod City is also encouraged.
He said that, while he is opposed to the transfer of the casino from Barangay Singcang-Airport, where he resides, he could not stop Pagcor from expanding its operation to a new location.
"I am personally opposed to it. I don't want them to leave Singcang because Goldenfield is a center of entertainment and commerce in the city. If the casino leaves Goldenfield, it will surely have a big impact on the life blood of (the area)," the councilor said.
Distrito also said Pagcor has not yet requested a required resolution of no objection from the council before they can implement their planned transfer to 15th- Lacson Streets.
