NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the province deserves the award for being the best performing local government unit in Western Visayas given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
"I am not surprised at all. Our services to our constituents are better than than those of our neighbors in the region," Lacson said.
Negros Occidental was awarded anew as the region’s Best Performing Province during the Pagdayaw 2013 Search for Excellence in Local Governance (Excell) Awards rites held in Iloilo City Thursday.
Last year, Negros Occidental also received the same award.
Lacson congratulated the Provincial Government employees who, he said, were instrumental in making the province the top contender for the award.
Such award only shows that Negrenses have received better services from the Provincial Government, he added.
For 2013, the province was also awarded as champion in three categories – Excellence in Economic Governance, Environmental Governance, and Valuing the Fundamentals of Good Governance.
Negros Occidental was also second runner-up in Administrative Governance and Social Governance.
In behalf of the province, second district Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr. and DILG Provincial Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag received the award from DILG Undersecretary Austere Panadero, Regional Director Anthony Nuyda, former regional director Evelyn Trompeta, and Assistant Regional Director Margie Biligan.
The cities of Sagay, San Carlos, Bago, and Kabankalan also received awards.
