THE official ballots for the January 11 plebiscite for the ratification of the creation of Barangay Paglaum in Bacolod City arrived Thursday, City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said.
Majarucon-Sia said the number of official ballots is equivalent to the total number of registered voters of Barangay Mansilingan which is 17,581.
The voting hours will be from 7 a.m. up to 3 p.m. while the canvassing of ballots will be held at the session hall of the City Council session, she said.
Majarucon-Sia said the same voting centers used during the barangay elections – the Paglaum Village Elementary School, Don Antonio L. Jayme Elementary School and Gonzaga Elementary School – will be used for the plebiscite.
She said a simple majority is required for the creation of Barangay Paglaum. Those in favor of its creation will vote “Yes” while those who are not in favor that Paglaum Village will be created out of Barangay Mansilingan will vote “No.”
She said the liquor and gun ban is confined to Barangay Mansilingan and will end on January 15.
Meanwhile, Department of Interior and Local Government Bacolod director Glenn Guzman said it is not true that the Internal Revenue Allotment share for a newly-created barangay will be taken from the IRA of the existing 61 barangays of Bacolod.
