BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella turned over on Tuesday a check worth P10 million to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) as financial assistance for patients from Bacolod City.

During the turn-over rites held at the hospital’s Reodica Hall, hospital chief Dr. Julius Drilon said 65 percent of their patients are residents of Bacolod.

Puentevella said the amount will settle the city’s past obligations to CLMMRH and also help patients being admitted to the regional hospital.

“I thank Dr. Drilon and the Department of Health for the big help that they have extended to the residents of Bacolod. We have a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that will serve as our guide in the utilization of these funds,” Puentevella said.

The mayor added that the city is amenable to the expansion of coverage of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) insurance for residents of Bacolod.

The mayor also said that media practitioners, who are members of the Negros Press Club (NPC), can also avail of the medical assistance at the regional hospital on top of the Mutual Aid Fund being extended by the City Government to the club.

He added that the city’s MKK health program will continue, but Drilon has encouraged him to support the PhilHealth program, because this has wider coverage and benefits for patients.

“The concept of the MKK and the MOA which we signed is almost the same. What is more important is that patients can have easier and faster access to the health programs of the city government in partnership with the CLMMRH,” the mayor added.

New emergency room

Drilon said the new emergency room on Burgos Street will open soon.

“The contractor is just doing some refinements especially on the technical and civil aspect of the project. It will soon be ready for occupancy,” he said.

Drilon requested Puentevella to prepare the traffic management system that will be implemented in the streets along the hospital’s vicinity once the emergency room opens.

He also asked the mayor to prevent vendors from plying their trade just outside the fences of the emergency room.

Puentevella assured Drilon that he will address his concerns.
