THE Sandiganbayan Fourth Division has issued a hold departure order against Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella and 2 others in relation to the graft charges filed against them for their alleged involvement in a computer scam.
Former Department of Education-Western Visayas regional director Victorino Tirol Jr. and Merryland Publishing Inc. chairman Jessie Garcia were also included in the immigration hold departure list.
The three are facing criminal case before the Office of the Ombudsman for alleged violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act on the supposed overpriced purchase of the computer packages in the amount of P400,000 per package. [Read more here]
In a resolution dated February 7, Fourth Division chairman Gregory Ong, Associate Justice Jose Hernandez, and Associate Justice Maria Cristina Cornejo directed the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to prohibit Puentevella, Tirol, and Garcia from leaving the Philippines for any destination abroad, either by air or sea transportation, except by prior written permission duly secured from and granted by the Sandiganbayan.
The Sandiganbayan directed the BI to report its compliance in writing within 15 days from notice.
“Mayor Monico is ready to face the case. In fact, on Friday there will be a hearing at the Sandiganbayan and the legal team will face it in behalf of the mayor. The legal team is ready to put up a valid defense and valid arguments in their motion for judicial declaration of probable cause,” said City Administrator Rolando Villamor.
