Kumaliskis village chief shot to death-A A +A

THE village chief of Barangay Kumaliskis, Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental was shot to death by an unidentified assailant at the height of the village’s fiesta celebration Sunday evening.
Police identified the victim as Edwin Peruelo, 35.
Police Officer 2 Arvi Delgado, desk officer of Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said on Monday that Peruelo was hit on his back.
Peruelo was watching the Lin-ay sang Barangay Kumaliskis pageant at around 11:30 p.m. when he was shot.
He was seated in front of the stage together with the judges, and when he was called give an award to the winning candidates, he was shot thrice by the assailant using a .45 handgun.
Delgado said that after the crowd scampered to safety, another gunshot was heard outside the fiesta activity area.
The police believed that the suspect, who fled to an unknown direction, has an accomplice.
Peruelo was rushed to a Bacolod City hospital but didn’t make it alive.
Police recovered from the scene of the crime three cartridges of .45 caliber pistol.
He said they are still conducting further investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits.
The body of the victim was brought to Acropolis Gardens in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.
