PNoy to lead unveiling of solar plant

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Friday that President Benigno Aquino III will visit the province in May 15 to lead the inauguration of the 22-megawatt solar power plant in San Carlos City.

Marañon said he will check the itinerary of the President to know if there is a chance he that can bring up with him the proposal for the creation of a one-island region for Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

The San Carlos Solar Energy Inc. (SaCaSol) is set to start operations of the country’s first commercial solar plant next month. It is expected to generate 20 megawatts.

SaCaSol is a renewable energy joint venture between Bronzeoak Philippines Inc. and the ThomasLloyd Group.

Also being developed by the San Carlos Biopower Inc. (BioPower) in the area is the P3.5-billion San Carlos Biomass Power Plant.

The construction of the 20-megawatt San Carlos Biomass Power Plant, seen to be completed in 2015, is being funded by investment banking and asset management group Thomas Lloyd, renewable energy project developer Bronzeoak Philippines, and Wuxi Huaguang of China.

In La Carlota City, the South Negros BioPower Inc. led by the group of Roberto Cuenca is also constructing the 25-megawatt biomass power plant in Barangay Cubay. (TDE)
