A 37-YEAR-OLD police officer in Negros Occidental died after he accidentally fired his gun yesterday morning inside his bunker behind the Sipalay City Police Station where he was assigned.

Senior Superintendent Milko Lirazan, director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, identified the victim as Police Officer 2 Joery Ayo, married, of Bacolod City.

Lirazan said that other members of the Sipalay police heard a gunfire around 7:30 a.m. They then found the victim with gunshot on the head and they rushed him to the Sipalay Infirmary but he died before reaching the facility.

He added that the victim was alone in his room when the incident happened and that he may have been cleaning his 9mm Glock pistol when he accidentally fired it to himself.

Lirazan said that he ordered Superintendent Noel Mana-ay, chief of the Sipalay City Police Office, to investigate incident as they are not yet ruling out the possibility that the victim might have committed suicide. (TDE)
