ABOUT 1,000 members of various labor organizations in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are expected to join a Labor Day rally at 1 p.m. today, May 1, Wennie Sancho, spokesman of General Alliance of Workers Association (Gawa), said.
Sancho said they will start the march rally at Singcang-Araneta area and then converge at the Welcome Rotonda at the Bacolod plaza.
Members of Partido Manggagawa (PM) will also join the rally along with the members of 17 allied organizations of Gawa.
Sancho said they do not expect any announcement from President Benigno S. Aquino today that would be significant to the labor sector.
"The President has been insensitive to the plight of the labor sector. The recent visit of US President Barack Obama strengthened the worldwide economic integration and globalization which is adverse to the labor sector," he added.
Emmanuel Bandiola, president of Gawa, said that unemployment in the country has increased and that they will press for the end of contractualization which is massive in the country.
