AT LEAST 32 “ukay-ukay” or used clothing and other merchandise stalls have been moved out at the Gatuslao side of the Bacolod City public plaza after Mayor Monico Puentevella issued a removal order.

Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya earlier said the trading in the area has no authority from the City Council.

Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, who chairs the committee on markets and slaughterhouse, also opposed to the selling of ukay-ukay and other merchandise in the public plaza because the area is identified as a historical site or landmark of the city.

However, Marfe Fernandez, organizer of the exhibits, showed over ABS-CBN Bacolod a receipt of the P300,000 fee they supposedly paid to Kasadya Bacolod Foundation Inc. to allow them to sell their merchandise at the plaza from April 1 to June 1.

Fernandez said the first payment amounting to P150,000 was made in January and another P150,000 was paid last April 3.

The vendors are asking for a refund after some of their stalls were demolished.
