A RETIRED judge and some prominent personalities in Negros Occidental were among the 49 new individuals who received cease and desist orders (CDOs) for illegal entry at the Northern Negros Natural Park (NNNP) in Don Salvador Benedicto.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) head Andres Untal said that all 49 new CDOs were already served by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) personnel.

However, he asked not to divulge yet the names of those served with CDOs including the retired judge, businessmen and other prominent persons.

Earlier, 40 individuals were already served with CDOs.

Like those who were first served the CDOs, Untal said, the 49 also bought lots located at the protected zone of the NNNP which is illegal.

He warned that both buyers and sellers are legally liable for such illegal acts.

Untal said they will continue to monitor the activities at the NNNP and that more CDOs will be issued once additional encroachers will be monitored.

He said that the Technical Working Group demolition order of illegal structures covers those that are served with CDOs.

However, the said recommendation of the TWG will still be reconciled with the recommendation of the Ad hoc Committee, Untal said.

The ad hoc committee is composed of the mayors of the cities of Cadiz, Victorias, Sagay, Silay, San Carlos and Talisay and the municipalities of Murcia, E.B. Magalona, Toboso, Calatrava, and Salvador Benedicto where the NNNP lies.

The CDOs were issued by the Penro in the wake of the status quo order of the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) on the stoppage of all construction works inside the NNNP and the creation of a TWG that will study thoroughly the status of the issue. (TDE)
