FOR the second straight month this summer, the Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ceneco) announced an increase in its residential rate.

For the May 2014 billing, rate for residential users is pegged at P10.1442 per kilowatt hour (kWh), with an increase of P0.2218 from last month’s P9.9224 per kWh.

In its advisory Friday, the Ceneco management said the generation charges is the biggest contributory factor to the rate increase due to higher capacity and monthly contracted energy with Power Sector Asset and Liabilities Management.

Other factors include additional compensation for the administered price in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market and increase in systems loss charges.

For May 2014 billing, residential consumers will pay additional P0.2218 for every kilowatt hour consumed. A consumption of 100 kilowatt hours will mean an additional charge of P22.18.

Last month, Ceneco announced a 46-centavo increase in its residential rate.

The April rate was P9.9224 per kilowatt hour, up by P0.4596 per kWh from March’s rate of P9.4628 per kWh.

Generation charges also contributed an increase of 7.29 percent due to Must Run Unit (MRU) and Price Substitution Adjustment (PSA) in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) for the billing months of November and December 2013 as cited in Energy Regulatory Commission Case No. 2014-021 MC.

Also, average transmission rate increased by 9.76 percent in April. Other factors that contributed to the increase are line rental and systems loss charges.

Ceneco’s coverage areas include the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay and Silay, and the municipalities of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto.
