A WOMAN and her six-month-old daughter were killed after they were hit by a Mitsubishi Fuso delivery truck along the Circumferential Road in Bacolod City around 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Police identified the mother as Maria Fe Arrosa, 30, and her baby, Jelian, residents of Relocation Site, Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City.
Police Officer 1 (PO1) Roger Sagre, traffic investigator of Police Station 4, said Arrosa was crossing the street while carrying her daughter along with her 12-year-old niece when the traffic light turned green.
He said Arrosa’s niece was not hurt after she managed to evade the truck.
The woman and her child were brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) where they were pronounced dead.
Arrosa might not have noticed that the traffic light was already green, the investigator said.
Truck driver Rudy Palanog, 36, of Alimodian, Iloilo City voluntarily surrendered to the police.
Sagre said the suspect may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide.
Palanog said it was not his intention to hit the victims. He explained that while he was waiting for the green light, he didn’t notice the victims crossing and when he drove again, he heard a loud bang behind his truck.
When he looked at his side mirror, he saw a woman lying on the road and he stopped driving.
Palanog said he is waiting for the decision of his employer for a possible settlement with the family of the victims.
He added he is asking for forgiveness from the family of the victims.
