PASTORS belonging to the Murcia Inter-Denominational Ministers Forum are asking Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra to extend the terms of Fr. Greg Patiño and Fr. Agustin Hinayan as town priests of Murcia parish.
The letter of appeal came after the Municipal Council of Murcia passed a resolution asking the bishop to replace the two priests amid their conflict with the municipal officials relative to illegal drug and illegal gambling issues.
"We express our collective stand in support of the resolute advocacy on the illegalities in our local community. We stand as your yolk fellow, accentuating our moral and spiritual obligations to further the good of the community," the pastors said in their letter to the bishop.
They said that they are supportive of the advocacy against illegal drugs and illegal gambling which is being pushed by the two priests.
The pastors who signed the letter to the bishop are Rev. Arsenal Llamas Jr., Rev. Rene Bajalan, Rev. Peter Alcantara, Rev. Jimmy Villegas Jr., Rev. Danilo Zapanta, Rev. Pepito Belonio, Rev. Renato Marina, Rev. Artemio Magallanes, and Rev. Adonis Naturales.
Last week, the Murcia Municipal Council unanimously passed a resolution asking Navarra for the relief of both priests of the town’s Immaculate Concepcion Parish.
The resolution states that the two priests stained the image of Murcia because of their projection that it has become a haven of illegal drugs and illegal gambling.
Both priests tackle the evils of these illegal activities during their sermons.
Mayor Andrew Montelibano, together with Vice Mayor Gerry Rojas and Association of Barangay Captains president Anton Gonzaga, submitted the resolution to Navarra on June 3.
For his part, Patiño said they are just fulfilling their moral obligation to the parishioners. (TDE)
