P8.5B allocated for housing of Yolanda victims in Negros

THe National Housing Authority (NHA) allocated a total of P8.5 billion to build 29,650 houses in nine localities in Negros Occidental affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

This was revealed on Monday by Architect Susan Nonato of the Project Implementation Team for Negros and Cebu under the Rehabilitation and Recovery Program for Yolanda victims.

Each housing unit is allocated P290,000, said Nonato who conducted a briefing on the project with the concerned mayors at the Governor's Office Monday.

The LGUs that will have the housing projects are Cadiz City, 8,742 units; Sagay City, 7,850; Manapla,2,964; Escalante City, 2,018; Victorias City, 2,321; E.B. Magalona, 1,168; Silay City, 1,992; Calatrava, 1,138 and Toboso, 1,457.

Nonato said they have already conducted the validation and are working for the implementation of the project in coordination with the provincial government.

The local government units will provide land as their counterpart.

Cadiz City has already completed the plan and next would be Sagay City, she said.

The target of completion of the project is before 2016. (TDE)
