THE management of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) said Monday that the residential power rate of Ceneco for June 2014 has decreased by almost 16 centavos following successive rate increases in the months of April and May.

Ceneco covers the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, and Silay, and the municipalities of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto.

For June 2014 billing, the residential rate is P9.9859 per kilowatt hour (kWh), a reduction of P0.1583 per kWh from last month’s P10.1442 per kWh.

The rate decrease is caused by a 2.87 percent reduction in Generation Charges and average Transmission rate from previous month’s rate due to stable power supply and less exposure in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

Last month, Ceneco announced a 22-centavo increase in its residential rate for May.

For the May 2014 billing, rate for residential users was pegged at P10.1442 per kilowatt hour, an increase of P0.2218 from the April rate of P9.9224 per kWh.

The increase was primarily due to higher capacity and monthly contracted energy with Power Sector Asset and Liabilities Management (Psalm).

In April, Ceneco announced a 46-centavo increase in its residential rate. The April rate was P9.9224 per kilowatt hour, up by P0.4596 per kWh from March’s rate of P9.4628 per kWh. (NLG)
