BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella announced on Monday that a bigger “wet and wild” party will be held in the city during the MassKara Festival in October.
The mayor’s announcement came amid the opposition aired by various sectors to the holding of these kind of parties after its staging in various venues in Bacolod last summer.
“It might be the fact that the party is dubbed as ‘wet and wild.’ What if we will change it to soft and dry?” the mayor said.
Puentevella said it would be fun being sprayed or sprinkled by water as he enjoys it himself especially when drinking red wine.
However, Bacolod Representative Evelio Leonardia is not impressed.
“What if ‘wet and wild’ parties are conducted in the city, what will happen to our youth if they are always wet and they get wild?" the former mayor asked.
Councilors Caesar Distrito and Em Ang have authored an ordinance seeking to regulate such kind of parties in the city.
The City Council passed the proposed ordinance on first reading and a public hearing will soon be conducted.
Ang, chairperson of the committee on family and children, said the ordinance aims to regulate the presence of minors in such parties.
"We cannot enforce a stoppage of it because it is a legitimate enterprise just like the holding of concerts, but if minors are not prevented from joining such party, that becomes a concern," she said.
