SOME towns and cities in Negros Occidental failed to meet their targets on Mobile Blood Donation (MBD), said Second District Board Member Miller Serondo, chairman of the committee on health.

Each local government unit (LGU) is required to collect blood from at least one percent of the total population.

Serondo said that because of this, they are planning to create a Provincial Blood Council to monitor and determine why the targets are not met.

Dr. David Pedrosa, consultant Negros Occidental First Provincial Blood Bank, said some scheduled MBD campaigns did not push through because of lack of donors.

Most of those who failed to reach the target for blood collection are small LGUs but he did not name them.

Although there is sufficient supply in the blood bank at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Bacolod, the need is always there depending on the blood type, Pedrosa said.

Meanwhile, Serondo said the Negros Occidental First Blood Bank located at Barangay 39, Bacolod City will be operational in August this year.

Serondo said the Blood Center still lacks the equipment and they are still processing the licenses for its operation.

Pedrosa said prospective blood donors could still go to the Blood Center which deposits the collected bloods either to CLMMRH or at the PNR blood banks.
