THE Escalante City Hall lost P2 million in cash to unidentified robbers who ransacked the Cashier’s Office over the weekend, the police said.
Superintendent Leo Batiles, chief of Escalante City Police Station, on day said janitor Noel Dueñas discovered the empty vault, but they could not determine yet when the robbers ransacked the office – whether on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Batiles said they are eyeing an “inside job” angle in the robbery incident.
He said about 11 City Hall workers, who have direct access to the Cashier’s Office are now under investigation.
These include the seven employees from the Cashier’s Office, three watchmen, and a janitor.
Batiles said the suspects will not operate if they don’t have a connection inside the office.
He noted that the city government was planning to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the building before the incident happened.
The Escalante City Hall is situated beside the police headquarters.
