A MANIFESTO of support is being readied for the signing of local chief executives in Negros Occidental in support of President Benigno S. Aquino III amid the controversy that his administration is facing over the implementation of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
This was bared Friday by Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. as he reiterated his support for the President over the issue.
He said that majority of the local officials are supportive of the President and that he believes a Constitutional crisis is not happening in the country.
Marañon is also against the move calling for the resignation of Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.
The governor issued the statement Friday when asked for his comment about the plan of the Diocese of Bacolod to hold a prayer vigil against DAP and to call for the resignation of Abad on July 28 in front of the San Sebastian Cathedral.
"Not all pronouncements of the Church are true. There is also corruption in the Church and there were even times that they were hounded with issues of anomalies. I am a Catholic but I don't believe in the Church sometimes," Marañon said.
What is important, he said, is that the people accept the President for what he is.
“He is honest and he is not corrupt, and his administration realized economic growth and proof to that is the intent of several foreign investors to invest in the country,” the governor said.
Marañon said that several projects were delivered by the Aquino administration in the province in terms of agriculture and infrastructure.
In fact, there are 121,000 poorest of the poor families who are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps in Negros Occidental.
“That never happened in the history of the province,” the governor added.
