THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has informed Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan that a budget of P40 million has been allocated for the installation of LED lights at the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road (BSAAR) where stone-throwing incidents causing damage to vehicles have been reported.

Saratan called an emergency meeting Friday after it was reported that last July 13, three vehicles were again hit with stones while passing through the Talisay portion of the BSAAR.

He meet with Chief Insp. Joresty Coronica, chief of Talisay City Police Office, Engr. Hermie Herida of the DPWH 1st Engineering District, City Administrator Jovim Entila and Executive Assistants Eduardo Chua, Victor Lizares, Jarred Martin Clarianes, and Edwin Pahilanga to look for solutions to the problem.

They were joined by village chiefs Reynaldo Villamor of Efigenio Lizares, Marina Bermeo of Matab-nag, and Joemar Estrope of Zone 15.

Herida told Saratan the bidding for the street lights is scheduled in August and installation is set from September to November so that these will be operational before December.

Saratan said the absence of street lights in the more than 10-kilometer access road also puts in danger the lives of peace keeping officers or police personnel conducting routine patrol in the area.

Lighting the access road could definitely help prevent unscrupulous individuals or groups from committing dangerous acts against motorists, the mayor said.
