OFFICIALS of Barangay 41 in Bacolod City and the representatives of the Bacolod-Murcia Milling Company (BMMC) were able to agree amicably Monday not to push through with the closure of the road that leads to the area where an illegal slaughtering operation was discovered last week.

The BMMC management owns the said access road.

Village chief Leonilo Colegado said the BMMC management agreed not to close the main entrance and exit point located across the Bacolod City Government Center on the condition that the people should exercise vigilance against the entry of illegal animal slaughterers.

The barangay will also tap the services of its tanods (watchmen) to do foot patrol day and night to prevent illegal slaughtering in their village.

As a result of the discovery of illegal slaughtering in Barangay 4, Arnulfo Ciocon, administrator and finance manager of the BMMC, wrote Colegado to inform them that they will be imposing stricter security measure on all vehicles coming in and going out of the BMMC compound.

He said that the road from BMMC compound going to Purok Malvar Cubay would be closed effective Monday, and all vehicles entering and exiting the BMMC compound shall use the gate at 4th Road.

Colegado, however, resisted the move and even thought of staging a rally Monday as a show of their protest.
