BACOLOD City Mayor Monico Puentevella appointed Rayfrando Diaz II as city legal officer, replacing Sarah Villamor who resigned after her year-long service as chief of the City Legal Office.
Diaz's appointment was announced by the mayor during a press conference on Tuesday.
"I thank Atty. Villamor for her services rendered to the city," Puentevella said of the daughter of City Administrator Rolando Villamor.
The mayor said Diaz will take care of all the major legal cases involving the city, including those related to the AVM Bernardo Engineering, operator of the city slaughterhouse; the Bacolod City Water District controversy; and properties of the city with the Philippine National Bank, Development Bank of the Philippines, the Bacolod Government Center, North Terminal, among others.
"I am sure he can tackle them all. He is very young and we welcome him to the City Government. He will review all these cases and make recommendations," Puentevella said.
For his part, Diaz said that he came in amid a most interesting time in Bacolod City.
"I thank the mayor for his trust and confidence in me and for welcoming me to the government service once more. I am humbled by this appointment and hopefully, I can live up to the expectations of the mayor and I can serve the people of the Bacolod City to the best of my capacity," he said.
Diaz, who has been in law practice since 2000, has served as provincial legal officer of the late Negros Occidental governor Joseph Marañon for a year.
He went back to private practice after his stint at the Capitol.
